Guilds and Societies

Calligraphy Guild of Indiana

I so enjoy being a member of this guild of fine people. They are generous, professional, giving, competent, and get excited for each members work no matter his or her skill level. I currently serve as the vice-president over our calligraphy exchanges. The guild has bi-monthly meetings and work groups. We do community outreach programs and various exhibits. Professional and non-professional calligraphers are well represented at the Indiana State Fair every summer. This is a great place to get started if you want to learn calligraphy. www.calligin.org

Society of Decorative Painters

SDP is an international organization with a local chapter in Indianapolis (Indy Decorative Artists). When I joined I thought I would learn how to paint European folk styles but I started taking everything that was offered and so now I have a good foundation in acrylics, oils, watercolor, and colored pencil. These ladies have been wonderful mentors to me and most have decades of experience. I have learned how to clean a brush, sold tickets for the quilt we make each year to benefit Riley Childrens Hospital, painted memory boxes for mothers who have lost their babies, dressed up in ridiculous outfits at our annual retreat, and I have even taught these painters some calligraphy. www.decorativepainters.org
